With two entities sharing the same space, the need to design a space that would function for both Westgate Church of Christ's Children's Ministry and the Westgate Christian School, while keeping their supplies and equipment separate, was imperative. My role as Designer included materials selection, color palette, flooring patterns, and design coordination with architect and contractor. The goal of the project was to create a space that would foster the safety and well-being of the children of Westgate and to design a space that would be easy to maintain, yet playful and imaginative. The design was inspired by taking cues from the architecture and echoing them in our materials, patterns and textures. Our team worked to make sure that material selection was within budget and selected promptly so as not to delay the construction schedule. Westgate Christian School's enrollment has increased dramatically since opening this new facility. The thing that I most enjoyed about this project was the opportunity to let my imagination tap into my inner child, incorporate the wishes of the staff, and take some risks with color and materials.
